Can you buy a body?

So I have  recently started college and I go to a lot of lectures. One that was particularly interesting last week was when the professor asked us our thoughts on a controversial statement.  “Does money buy happiness?”

Now a lot of people answered the professor differently. Some people immediately jumped and said YES. Some made a judgemental face, and said NO. My observations were that a majority of the class said yes. And some were wary to say yes, but you could tell they wished to

I have conflicting sentiments on this. I did when I was listening to the lecture, I do while I am typing this, and I probably will when I post this, and when I read it over in a few weeks.

So here it is:

You can be the richest person in the world: you can have the most prestigious cars, showiest house on the block, have the #1 job according to “Forbes Magazine”, all the friends in the world (that are probably using you for your money).

Yet even with all that I still feel that without gratitude, trust, and humbleness  you  do not have true happiness and humanity.

I believe that even with the best connections to and access to the smartest, top Ivy League trained doctors in the world, if you lose your health, you may still never get better. You can have all the money in the world, fly anywhere to do any treatment at any time any place while living in the lifestyle of luxury and leisure. But science is science.

If you were in a tragic vehicular accident, were hit from the side, and immediately paralyzed and with a traumatic brain injury, all the MONEY  in the world wouldn’t buy back your “old” life.

Money CAN-NOT do everything. Everyone has an example of something momentous that has occurred in their life. Everyone has a point in time that they wish they could return to. I know I DO!  Maybe it’s before you had kids. Before you had responsibilities. Or maybe before you got sick. Or before you had surgery. Or before a family member passed away. Or before you were kidnapped. Or before you were incarcerated. Or before you got divorced. Before your body and mind changed forever.  You can never get that back. You cannot go back in time

You cannot buy a body. If you could, I WOULD HAVE. You can buy a good doctor, a good surgeon.

When I was immobile and having really tough days, well, I needed some encouragement. My physical therapist always URGED me to keep my eye on the prize. (hint hint you now know who you are). The prize being your health, THAT IS your true wealth. It’s all that matters. If you don’t have your health, then what do you have? Think about it.

Have you ever gotten a card that says “wear it in good health” from your grandparents? I never truly understood what they meant until now. I now say this constantly! “Your health is all that matters!” “Enjoy every minute!”  I sound like an 80 year old grandmother.  But who cares! It is true. Now I want you to think about what I am about to say. If you do not have your health, then what do you have? What can you do without it? How far will you get?

I think money is never a bad thing to have. But I also think it depends on how you use it, how you let it affect you. I think that no matter how much money you have or don’t have, it is important to always remain true to yourself and your morals. I think it is essential to always try and help others when you are in the position to. And lastly look out for the ones that look out for you.

Sammy, We lived this post. It usually takes a lifetime to learn what is truly important in life: health, love, family, true friends… money doesn’t even come close.

    Keep those posts coming…
